I'm like the ringleader, I call the shots

And here goes another cover post. If you're already bored by them just skip it!

  1. Boyce Avenue - Circus/Just Dance (Britney Spears/Lady Gaga): I don't really like those to songs, it's just not the kind of music I'm listening to. This cover however combines them very well and turns them into something different.
  2. Untertagen - Dreh den (Indie-)Swag auf! (Money Brother): Germans might remember this song by Money Brother. It was so bad that it was kind of funny. The cover is actually quite good. Well, obviously, the lyrics are still not very meaningful or poetic but atleast they are making it sound good.
  3. Ortopilot - Hey Ya (Outkast): The original is a classic for my generation. This cover is not as danceable as the Outkast version but I love Ortopilot and I'm sure there will be a lot more of his covers in this series.
  4. Of Monsters and Men - Kids (MGMT): Of Monsters and Men are so great! They are definitely one of my favourite bands at the moment. And this cover is so cute!
  5. Smith & Burrows - Only You (Yazoo): Such a beautiful song! And such a beautiful cover! I love the singer's voice.

PS: I started a cooking blog and posted the first entry on a veggie pasta sauce today. Check it out!

I wear my headphones as you speak

LONDON HAUL

As I've promised I want to show you what I bought in London:

Two tube tops from Next: I like to wear those underneath light and seethrough tops. And if spring comes eventually, I will get a lot of wear out of them

Tangle Teezer: I was planning to buy this because everyone keeps raving on about this and my hair tends to be very tangled. In Germany it's slighty more expensive and I have only seen it in pink so far which isn't my favourite colour… It actually is quite good but I had been expecting more of it because of all the good things I heard about it.

Collection 2000 Concealer: Again, I was planning to buy this because all the British blogger and youtuber are loving it so I wanted to give it a try. Because I want to empty the concealer that I'm using right now first, I haven't really used it and can't say anything about it yet.

Revlon Colorstay Foundation: At the moment this is my everyday foundation and I had to take the chance to get a bottle in the UK

Lush Lip Scrup (Popcorn): I was also planning on buying this because it is cheaper in the UK than in Germany. I love it! It's tasting really good ;) and also does a good job scrubbing the lips.

Pyjama from H&M: Simi's flat was veeerry cold and I had only a pair of sleeping shorts with me so I needed to buy something slightly warmer. I thought this was really cute, I looove Bambi!

And that's it already! I spent most of my money on food :)

Tomorrow I'm going back to Chemnitz and the next week will be all about moving and buying furniture...

I’ll be holding you so tight, try to get it right this time

Leslie Clio - Sister Sun Brother Moon

So, I've been to London. I arrived on Wednesday evening and I saw an amazing sunset throughout the whole flight. Flying west with the sun is great!

On thursday the weather was beautiful. At first I went to Notting Hill, which isn't touristy at all at 10 in the morning! I think I even saw some people who actually live in this area at Portobello Road! I just walked around there a bit and had a coffee in a cute little café. Afterwards, I went to Kensington Gardens and sat on a bench on the pond to write some postcards. It was a bit chilly but nice.
When I got cold, I warmed up by walking to the Westfield Centre in Shepherd's Bush. I wanted to do sooo much shopping in London but in the end I didn't really buy a lot, but I will do an extra post on that. Even though I didn't buy much I spend a lot of time in this huge shopping centre.
When I was fed up with all this consumerism I went (ironically) to Oxford Circus, but not for shopping. I wanted to visited the EAT. shop that I had been working in for six month. To my disappointment only one of my former managers was there and she told me that she and two of the costumer servants are the only ones left that I know in this shop. Well I had been expecting this - it's not a job you would want to spent the rest of your life in. While I was enjoying my free cappucino, I got a text from my friend Simi (she is my former housemate and I was staying with her for those days in London) who wanted to meet up for dinner.
We met at the Southbank and because I was there way to early, I had the chance to take some pictures of the breathtaking sky. (We went to wagamama by the way)

It was rainy on Friday… I went to Camden but didn't have much fun, being surprised by quick rain shower quite often. After a while I decided to take the bus to Oxford Circus and walk to Covent Garden from there. I went into some stores that I passed (e.g. the opening of he new H&M flagship store). It wouldn't stop raining though and instead of going to Shorditch which I had planned originally I ended up in the British Musuem. I love this building! I checked out some of the exhibition pieces but because I had been walking so much that day and also was pretty tired I just sat down in the huge entrance hall and read for a while.

In the evening, Alec (my other former housemate and Simi's boyfriend) arrived from Cardiff and we went to Brixton Village, which is an old market hall with a lot of restaurants and cafés. We decided on a pizza place and it was very delicious!

Saturday was a quite lazy day. We slept quite long, had porridge for breakfast and watched some TV before we went grocery shopping for our roast that we wanted to cook. At two o'clock Sylvia an Maya, friends of Simi, came over and we cooked a chicken with roasted vegetables. It was really good and after apple pie and cheesecake as a dessert we were completely stuffed!
The day before Simi had got a leaflet of a chocolate museum opening in Brixton, so we wanted to check that out but it was very disappointing. We said goodbye to Sylvia and Maya and went home again, to continue our lazy day.
In the evening we went to a bar called Kaff where we also had been last year. It's a very cool place and for London it's quite cheap. You can get a mojito for 3£. Being lazy all day we were pretty tired (you know how that works ;) ) but because it was still pretty early, Simi had the idea to go to the cinema. Django Unchained was on at 10!!! None of us had seen it yet and all of us really wanted to so the decision was made very quickly. We bought some snacks and went to "Ritzy Picturehouse" which is a very cool cinema in Brixton. The film was amazingly good and I recommend everyone who hasn't watched it yet - do so! If you can stand a little blood and brutality that is. The negative side of this spontaneous cinema experiance was that I was in bed at 2 and had to get up again at 5:20 to get to the airport. But I somehow managed it and landed safely back in Berlin.

By the way, how cute is this commercial??

Bring your body baby, I can bring you fame

I thought while I'm in London it's time for another cover songs post. Here it goes.

  1. The Kooks - All That She Wants (by Ace of Base): Great song in general, the Kooks version sounds lighter somehow and very "indie".
  2. Disturbed - Shout 2000 (by Tears for Fears): Of course this is a very different genre from the original version. I like both, this one is definitely a bit harder ;)
  3. Cœur de Pirate - Wicked Games (by The Weeknd): I love love love the original song! Hwat I like about this version though, is the vulnerability in her voice. Also, it's always good to hear a cute little voice singing naughty words.
  4. Jayesslee - Gangnam Style (by PSY): Seriously, who can still listen to this song without being sick? Anyone? Well, me neither. Except for this cover. It is beautiful!
  5. Northern Lite - Clocks (by Coldplay): I never know whether I like Coldplay or not. But I definitely like this cover!

Dieser Beat, dieser Bass, diese Monotonie, das ist very Berlin - du bist very Berlin!

One week ago the weather was beautiful. (Unlike now but I don't have to get into that anymore…)
Having arrived to Berlin just a few days ago, I decided to take a walk in the city. Firstly, I went to Hackescher Markt, where I bought a sandwich and sat down near the Spree for a while. And I wasn't the only one who chose that spot to enjoy the first warm day of spring:

From there I went past Berliner Dom

Holocaust Memorial

Brandenburger Tor

and from Potsdamer Platz I headed home.

Sometimes I like being a tourist in my own home town :)

Where do bad folks go when they die

Nirvana - Lake Of Fire

So, let's see what I did last week. On Saturday I arrived in Berlin. I went by bus from Leipzig which went great and I think I am going to do this more often from now on. For 8 € it's definitely the cheapest option out there.

On Sunday I went to the fleamarket in Mauerpark but I didn't really find something. I like the atmosphere of fleamarkets an I like looking and old things but I never really buy anything… I don't know why.
I also went on a little walk around that area and took some pictures:

Afterwards I saw the Füchse Berlin defeat TuS N-Lübbecke by 35:25. It was a great game and I enjoyed watching live handball again!

The next day I went shopping and you have already seen what I bought so I won't go into it much longer. I just have to mention again how amazingly beautiful the weather was that day.
And it got even better on Tuesday!

I went on a long walk in the city center of Berlin and enjoyed the sun! I will do a seperate post on that later on because I want to include a couple of pictures that I took that day.
Wednesday was just a lazy day, it's nice to have one of those from time to time ;)
On Thursday I met up with a friend in Prenzlauer Berg. I know him from my time in London, he's from Hamburg and doing an internship in a hospital in Berlin at the moment. We went in a cute café and it was great to update eachother on our lives.
The cold came back on Friday… I spent the day with my mom in Potsdam where we had a guided tour to Einsteinturm and Der Große Refraktor. It was freezing and I am really surprised I didn't end up with pneumonia or something like that. It took my body hours to get warm again. The tour was very interesting though.
I met the friend from London again on Saturday. We went to some night clubs but first I went to the cinema with a friend. We watched "Nachtzug nach Lissabon". I loved reading the book even though I couldn't remember a lot about the plot because it has been ages since I read it. It all came back by watching the film though an I thought it was really really good. It got some bad reviews but maybe you really need to read the book first. Probably that is a bad thing because the film should be independend from the book but honestly, when is this truly the case? I think it's a very interesting film and I really need to travel to Lissabon one day!
When we left the cinema it was snowing. I can't see it anymore, it's terrible! I want spring! I can't take the winter anymore! And I am really looking forward to rainy London at the moment because everything is better than snow right now.
This is how it's looking outside my window right now and not even a week has passed since I took the picture above :(

Sunday, I spent mostly in bed with quite a bad hangover…

What I did this week
What I ate: Rosinenschnecken
What I drank: too much Gin Tonic...
What I watched: The Good Wife
What I heared: the new Hurts album Exile
What I read: This Is A Call
What I thought: Berlin will always be my home
What I bought: this
What I planned: my days in London and what I need to take back to Chemnitz for my new flat

Find light in the beautiful sea, I choose to be happy

Yesterday I stumbled upon this post on you, me & charlie about cover songs. I love good covers! And by good I mean either better than the original song and/or completely different. This post brought me to the idea to start a series on my blog where I will present some good covers to you, and yes, this really needs a series because I could go on and on and on about it. So here are the first five covers that I love a lot:

  1. Any Given Day - Diamonds (by Rihanna): This is definitely my favourite cover at the moment! Yes, it is metal and you might not think that I'm listening to that kind of music but I actually do. I love how they turned the song into something completely different but it still has got some kind of softness and a lot of emotions to it.
  2. Stereophonics - Nothing Compares 2 U (by Sinead O'Connor): Great song in general but this cover version is just more my cup of tea. The singer's rough voice contributes to the emotions of the song very well and gives me enormous goosebumps.
  3. Karmin - Look At Me Now (by Chris Brown): I'm just amazed by how fast this woman can rap and you still kind of understand what she's saying. I definitely couldn't do that.
  4. John Legend - Rolling In The Deep (by Adele): He has got such a beautiful and strong voice! He is singing it a capella and it sounds amazing! Gives me shivers!
  5. Johnny Cash - Hurt (by Nine Inch Nails): This is definitely the best cover of all times! I really like Nine Inch Nails but this is so much better than the original song.

Now Im sitting here, sipping at my ice cold beer, lazing on a sunny afternoon.

The Kinks - Sunny Afternoon

HAUL!

Today is such a beautiful sunny day! I went shopping (I need to enjoy the shop variety of Berlin as long as I am here ;) )
First I went to dm which is a drug store chain in Germany, selling very inexpensive but great products. What I bought there:

Schwarzkopf Brilliance Intensiv-Color-Creme in 843: This is the coloration that I am using for quite a long time now and I am still very happy with it (which means a lot since I am usually getting bored of my hair colour very fast)

Balea Med hand cream: I have never tried it before but I needed a handcreme because I forgot to take one with me to Berlin (as if I don't have enough hand creams already…) and my hands are really dry at the moment. This was the cheapest one but seems to do the job quite well.

Balea Bodylotion Hawaii Pineapple: This is smelling amazing! Like freshly cut pineapple, you want to eat it! I bought these limited editions before and they are never super moisturising but since I already use a moisturising shower gel this will definetly be enough.

alverde clear peeling mask for blemished skin: This is part of my everyday skin care routine and I ran out so I had to repurchase. It works - I love it.

Garnier natural beauty shampoo + conditioner arganoil and cranberry: I'm using these since I started dying my hair red and I really like them. They smell nice and are silicone and paraben free, plus I really think they really are protecting my hair colour from fading out, atleast for a while.

Balea desinfecting hand gel: It's always good to have one of those in your bag especially if you're taking public transport ;)

elmex toothpaste: I'm using this since I am using toothpaste for grown-ups. Nothing more to say about it.

I bought a lot of basics because I didn't want to take loads of stuff with me to Berlin, so I am just going to leave them here at my Mom's place when I'm going back to Chemnitz.

I didn't want to buy anything else because I'm saving money that I can than spend in London but the weather was so nice so I walked around Ku'damm for a while and ended up in Urban Outfitters which is bad bad bad if I want to save money… I could buy almost anything in there. BUT I behaved - almost. I found this jacket in the sale:

It was reduced from 72€ to 32€ and with the 20% student's discount I only paid 25,60€. I know that I will get a lot of wear out of this in spring so it was an absolute bargain!

That's it from my haul. I wish you all a great week!

March 1, 2013

I got this feeling on a summer day when you were gone

Icona Pop - I Love It

The last week was very stressful, the weekend was great, though… It started out with a house party at the apartement of a good friend of mine which was a lot of fun even though I was veeeery tired because I had had an exam in the morning (which went great by the way!). On Saturday the partying went on but first I had to buy moving boxes and a few other things. It was snowing very badly but I took these two pretty pictures that day:

But still, I'm very glad that it has stopped snowing and that it's a bit warmer now. In the evening I met with a couple of friends, had a couple of beers and went to a party later on.
On Sunday, I went to an Indian restaurant with my flatmates as a goodbye dinner. The food was reaally delicious but it was kind of expensive. This is what I had:

I got the keys to the new apartement on Monday! Marie (my soon to be flatmate) and I also carried some of her stuff to the new apartement and some friends helped me to carry my dresser upstairs. We ordered pizza afterwards. Also, I started a course in HTML on Monday.
I also went to that course on tuesday. Furthermore, me and some friends went to Dresden (which is a one hour train journey from Chemnitz) to do some shopping and just to have a girly day out. I bought  three belts, a bracelet and this hat:

Part two of my course started on Wednesday, it's about PHP. Afterwards, I went to a DIY market to buy paint for my room. I decided on a light grey, which I painted on Thursday. It turned out like that:

I did it on my own and it took me almost six hours but it was totaly worth it! I think it's looking great.
Today was the last day of my course and I don't feel like I have learned a lot… But I'm sure a few things will stick to my mind. The rest of the day, I spent with bringing the rest of my things upstairs, which was very exhausting, so I'm going to spent the evening with relaxing. I have to get up quite early tomorrow since I'm travelling to Berlin (where I'm going to stay for almost one month!!!).

What I did this week
What I ate: Indian, a lot of catine food
What I drank: beer and water
What I watched: One Tree Hill
What I read: Mockingjay, a lot of HTML, CSS, PHP etc.
What I thought: I want spring!
What I bought: Belts, bracelet, hat, paint, moving boxes…
What I planned: one month Berlin and three days London
